Welcome to our step by step guide for being able to create a latest news item within your Primarysite Website.
In this guide we will cover:
- How to create a latest news item
- How to publish your latest news to social media using your social media integration.
- How to edit your latest news item

Getting started
Firstly, you will need to log into your website. This may be done by either clicking a padlock icon or it could be that the words ‘log in’ are situated on the homepage, either in a corner or at the bottom of the page.
A log in screen will then appear, for your details
As default only, either a super user or anyone under the office role type will have the permission to add a latest news item. We can however amend the permissions for editing for other role types if required. Please give us a call to do this.
How to Create a Latest News Item
To be able to add a new latest news item, you need to firstly click on the navigation menu, where your latest news sits, typically this is on the home page under News and Events.
Once you have clicked the latest news page within the menu, this below screen will then appear.
You will then need to click the edit news button, which can be located in the top left corner of the page on the white bar.
Once you have clicked the edit news button, you will then see the below screen. To add a news item, you will need to click the yellow ‘create new’ button on the right-hand side.
You may also want to add some introduction text to the page. To do this you would need to click the ‘edit introduction text’ button
Once you have clicked the ‘create new’ button you will then see the below screen.
You must add a title to your news item and a date as these are mandatory fields. You have the option to add an author should you wish.
Now you will just need to add in your information relating to your news item in the text area. There is also the ability to add pictures to your latest news item should you wish.
To do this you would need to click the yellow ‘manage pictures’ button, you will then be asked to select your file.
You can either drag and drop your files into the file uploader or you can select the ‘chose files’ button to select your images from where you have this saved on your PC/device.
Once you have uploaded your image/s, you will then see the below manage pictures screen.
Should you have more than one image, you can reorder them, by dragging and dropping each one. You also have the ability to add captions or add/delete any selected images if needs be by using the associated yellow buttons.
Once you are happy, click the blue save button. You will then be taken back to the news screen and will see your selected images appear under the ‘accompanying pictures’ heading.
To add the news item to your website you will need to select the blue ‘publish’ button. Should you not be ready to post out your latest news item just yet, you can save your news item as a draft using the blue ‘save draft’ button.
Once your news item has been published it will display on the latest news page as the below.
You can see that once your latest news has been posted, it will appear in date order of the newest article first. Your news items will automatically archive down the right-hand side by year and month of when these items were posted.
How to Publish Latest News Items to Social Media
Your latest news items can also be posted out to your social media accounts if you have set up social media integration within the website.
To send your latest news item to your social media accounts, you will need to select the tick boxes in the right-hand bottom corner of the news item before selecting the ‘publish’ button. Please note you do not have to post the item out to both, this can go to one or the other.
When published, your latest news item will then post to the school website as well as being posted to your social media accounts.
Once a latest news item has been published you will not have the ability to go and edit the item for sending this out to your social media accounts only. You will however be able to edit the information in the news item itself.
Please note when viewing this in social media, the post will show the title of the latest news item and the link to the item, which when clicked will then redirect you to the school website.
How to Edit your Latest News Item
You will have the ability to edit any latest news items that you have created should you need to. To do this you will firstly need to go to the latest news item page itself and select the blue ‘edit news’ button in the top left corner of the white bar.
You will then see all of your existing latest news items displayed in list format, all of which will have the yellow pencil icon and red ‘x’ icon located on the right-hand side of the item.
If you need to delete an item, this can be done by selecting the red ‘x’ button. You will see a prompt box before you delete.
To edit an item, you will need to select the yellow pencil button. You will then be taken back to the edit news item area.
Once you have finished editing you will then need to click the save button and then the blue ‘done’ button for the changes to post onto the website.
